Eddy Tan has been a strength and conditioning coach for the past five years, working with various national teams. He is also the assistant national coach for weightlifting working under the tutelage of Mr Tan Howe Liang - the national coach. Thus he is exposed to a wide spectrum of elite athletes, acquiring valuable experience from a world class coach to shape future champions.
As an athlete, Eddy trained under Mr Tan Howe Liang for years and placed sixth at the 2002 Asian Intercity Championships in the 94kg weight class held in Thailand. Now, as a coach, Eddy concentrates on developing beginner and junior lifters, bringing up new blood in the sport of weightlifting. This position allows him to put his vast practical and theoretical knowledge into practice. He has trained junior athletes who have then competed in the Asian Junior Championships.

Highlight of the Sport
It is the only sport to have won an Olympic medal (silver) for Singapore. This national hero is none other than Mr Tan Howe Liang who competed at the 1960 Rome Olympics in the middleweight class (67.5kg).
About Weightlifting
Weightlifting is the only Olympic sport in which heavy weights are used. It is a highly intensive sport, consisting of 2 movements – the snatch, and the clean and jerk.
